SURI - ASHI

SuriAshiKanji

SURI ASHI means to Slide Foreward with the Front Leg (Foot) - from Fighting Stance - into a longer Stance. The Object being to effectively reduce the Distance between Yourself and the Opponent -  The quickest way without stepping with the back Leg.

There are TWO (2) ways to perform SURI ASHI. ie : SURI ASHI ICHI and SURI ASHI NI

Front Leg Slides out and Returns to origional Fighting Stance.
Back Foot remains Stationary, but Back Foot Heel may lift up when the Front Foot Slide is performed.

Front Leg Slides out First and is then followed by the back leg.
(Both Feet slide the Same distance).
You may Also Retreat (Go backward)
by reversing above process; ie :
Back Foot slides Back First and is then followed by the Front Foot.
